Addressing tips for Italy
- Postcodes have five digits and are written to the left of the town name.[1]
- The locality line holds the postcode, the town and the two-letter province abbreviation: 00122 ROMA RM.[1]
- An address has three to six lines: recipient, optional extra information about the recipient, optional building details (stairway, floor, apartment or suite), the street name and number, the locality line, and the country for mail from abroad.[1]
- Write the street number after the street name, never before: VIALE EUROPA 22.[1]
- The street, locality and country lines must be in capitals, and capitals on every line are preferable. Avoid punctuation, especially on those lines.[1]
- A PO box (Casella Postale) goes on the street line, as in CASELLA POSTALE 14123 above 00149 ROMA RM.[1]

Questions about sending mail to Italy
- How long does mail to Italy take?
- We estimate 4โ6 business days after mailing. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date, and the count starts on the day we mail your letter, not the day you order.
- Can I send a letter to Italy from another country?
- Yes. You order online from wherever you are, and we print and mail the letter for you, so you don't need stamps or a trip to the post office. Once your order is assigned, its page shows the country it was mailed from.
- Can I add a return receipt to a letter to Italy?
- Yes. Choose Registered letter and add the return receipt. The recipient signs on delivery and the signed receipt is posted back to the sender address on your letter. A sender address is required.
- Can I track a letter to Italy?
- Yes, with a tracked or registered letter. Tracking updates depend on the postal networks along the way, so they may not cover every step. Your order page shows the updates we receive.
- Do I need to enter a state or province for Italy?
- Yes, the address form asks for it and we print it as part of the address. Pick the address from the suggestions to fill it in automatically.
- What is the province abbreviation in an Italian address?
- The two-letter code of the province, written after the town on the same line: RM for Rome in 00122 ROMA RM. Picking the address from the suggestions fills it in.[1]
- Where do I write the floor or apartment number?
- On a line of its own above the street line, as in the specimen "INTERNO 12 PIANO 10" above "VIALE EUROPA 300".[1]
- Do I write the country on an Italian address?
- For mail sent from abroad, yes: the country goes on the last line. UPU describes it as needed only for outbound mail.[1]
