Addressing tips for the United Kingdom
- Postcodes have five to seven letters and digits, with a space before the last three characters (EC1Y 8SY). Six patterns exist (such as AN NAA, AANA NAA); GIR 0AA is the only exception.[1]
- Write the postcode in capitals, with no punctuation, on a line of its own. On mail from abroad it is the line above the country name.[1]
- The post town goes on the line above the postcode; the UPU examples write it in capitals (LONDON, ABINGDON, HOLT).[1]
- The county is no longer needed when the post town and postcode are given.[1]
- A building name or flat goes on a line above the street, with the number and street on one line: "Victoria House", then "15 The Street".[1]
Territories that use the United Kingdom's postal system
Some addresses with the United Kingdom's postcodes are separate postal destinations. Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey aren't available yet.[1]

Questions about sending mail to the United Kingdom
- How long does mail to the United Kingdom take?
- We estimate 3โ5 business days after mailing. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date, and the count starts on the day we mail your letter, not the day you order.
- Can I send a letter to the United Kingdom from another country?
- Yes. You order online from wherever you are, and we print and mail the letter for you, so you don't need stamps or a trip to the post office. Once your order is assigned, its page shows the country it was mailed from.
- Is a return receipt available for the United Kingdom?
- No. Registered letters to the United Kingdom are delivered against signature, but a return receipt isn't sold for this destination.
- Can I track a letter to the United Kingdom?
- Yes, with a tracked or registered letter. Tracking updates depend on the postal networks along the way, so they may not cover every step. Your order page shows the updates we receive.
- Do you deliver to Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey?
- Not yet. We don't send there at the moment. If you enter an address there, the send flow tells you before you pay.
- Do I need to write the county in a UK address?
- No. The county is no longer required when the post town and the postcode are provided.[1]
- Where does the postcode go in a UK address?
- On its own line, in capitals and without punctuation, below the post town. A single space separates its two parts, as in SW1A 2AA.[1]
- Can I send a letter to a flat or a named building?
- Yes. Put the flat or building name on the line above the number and street, for example "Stables Flat" above "The Manor" in UPU's specimen.[1]
- Can I send a letter to an address with a village or district line?
- Only partly for now. UK addresses can have a village or district (dependent locality) on its own line above the post town, but MaisonMail has no separate field for it yet. Make sure the street, post town and postcode are right; the postcode identifies the delivery point.
