Addressing tips for Canada
- The last line holds the municipality, the province or territory code and the postal code, in that order and on the same line: MONTREAL QC H3Z 2Y7.[1]
- A postal code has six characters in the pattern letter-digit-letter, space, digit-letter-digit, in capitals, with one space after the third character.[1]
- Capital letters are preferred. Avoid punctuation unless it is part of a proper name (ST. JOHN'S); accents are not punctuation. Avoid the # symbol and the abbreviation No.[1]
- Lines should have at most 40 characters including spaces, and no more than one blank line is allowed between lines.[1]
- A unit number goes in front of the street number with a hyphen: 10-123 MAIN STREET NW means unit 10 at number 123.[1]
- A PO box line follows the street line and ends with the postal installation: PO BOX 4001 STN A.[1]
- Province and territory codes: AB, BC, MB, NB, NL, NS, NT, NU, ON, PE, QC, SK, YT.[1]

- Can I send a letter to Canada from another country?
- Yes. You order online from wherever you are, and we print and mail the letter for you, so you don't need stamps or a trip to the post office. Once your order is assigned, its page shows the country it was mailed from.
