Addressing tips for Malta
- A Maltese postcode has three letters, a space and four digits, in capitals: HMR 1428. The letters identify the locality.[1]
- The locality name goes on its own line, in capitals, with the postcode on the line below it: IL-HAMRUN, then HMR 1428.[1]
- Locality names and the country name must be printed in upper case, as must the postcode.[1]
- Each line holds at most 40 characters including spaces, and punctuation is recommended only where it is part of a proper name.[1]
- A PO box line reads Kaxxa Postali and the number in place of the street.[1]
- Personal postcodes covering a particular area are also in use in Malta and may not follow the same format.[1]

Questions about sending mail to Malta
- How long does mail to Malta take?
- We estimate 5โ7 business days after mailing. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date, and the count starts on the day we mail your letter, not the day you order.
- Can I send a letter to Malta from another country?
- Yes. You order online from wherever you are, and we print and mail the letter for you, so you don't need stamps or a trip to the post office. Once your order is assigned, its page shows the country it was mailed from.
- Can I add a return receipt to a letter to Malta?
- Yes. Choose Registered letter and add the return receipt. The recipient signs on delivery and the signed receipt is posted back to the sender address on your letter. A sender address is required.
- Can I track a letter to Malta?
- Yes, with a tracked or registered letter. Tracking updates depend on the postal networks along the way, so they may not cover every step. Your order page shows the updates we receive.
- How do I write a Maltese postcode?
- Three capital letters, a space and four digits, such as HMR 1428, on a line of its own below the locality.[1]
- Why does the locality have a prefix like IL- or TAS- in Malta?
- The locality names in UPU's specimens include the Maltese definite article (IL-HAMRUN, TAS-SLIEMA). Write the locality name as it appears on the recipient's address.[1]
