Contract Termination Letter
A contract termination letter formally ends a subscription or service contract — gym, insurance, energy, maintenance and similar agreements. On paper, it gives you a dated, provable record that you asked to cancel.
When to send it
Send it once you decide to cancel, respecting the notice period set in your contract (often 1 to 3 months). For contracts on automatic renewal, post it before the renewal date; under the Chatel and Hamon rules many contracts can also be cancelled at any time after the first year.
What you need to know
- Send it as a registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt (recommandé avec AR) so you can prove the date it was received.
- Quote your contract or client number and the exact effective date you want.
- Check your contract for the required notice period and any cancellation conditions before sending.
- Keep the proof of receipt until you get written confirmation and a final statement.
How to send it
We recommend a registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt. MaisonMail prints and posts it for you, and the AR proof is the legal evidence that your provider received the request.
